If there's a franchise that truly feels like George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series, it is Crusader Kings, as no other game manages to capture the importance of political scheming as much as the series by Paradox. While an official adaptation has yet to be made, fans can now enjoy taking down their enemies by stabbing them in the back in Westeros thanks to a mod for the third entry in the series that is now available in open beta.
Just as with any Crusader Kings 3 game, players loading up CK3 AGOT for the first time will get to choose their starting character who they will play as until death, upon which their heir will become the focus of attention. Unlike the base game, however, the characters available are likely to be a tad more recognizable than their historical counterparts.
One of the first things that players will notice when they start their grand campaign in CK3 AGOT, is the absolutely stunning map of Westeros which has been sculpted in extraordinary detail. The map is also extremely large with Westeros being nearly as large as the entire map found in the base game.
Each region of Westeros feels truly unique whilst mirroring real aspects of the natural world in impressive detail. As most of a player's time in any Grand Strategy game is spent staring at the map, this is a huge asset and truly helps with the immersion.
For Crusader Kings 3 players who own the Royal Courts DLC which added artifacts and throne rooms to the game, the CK3 AGOT mod features its own examples of these. Naturally, the Iron Throne and the throne room in which it stands takes center stage and will serve as further motivation to take control of the realm.
Other Game of Thrones artifacts, which rival the best artifacts in the base game, include the many crowns of past Targaryen kings and Valyrian Steel swords such as Ice, the ancestral sword of House Stark.
Secondly, the developers of CK3 AGOT are committed to the long-term success of the mod with plans to bring the eastern continent of Essos to life and of course more bookmarks and start dates. The first two bookmarks are Robert's Rebellion and The Crowned Stag, but in the future fans can expect similar start dates such as the following Greyjoy Rebellion. These bookmarks have been chosen because they don't feature dragons or White Walkers, but once these have been implemented into the game the potential for earlier and later start dates will open up.
There's no word on where the mod will be available to download, but if it's anything like some other CK3 mods, you'll be able to grab it from the Steam workshop. When a news-bearing raven arrives, we'll update this article with a download link.

This offers an excellent complement to those looking for more Imperator: Rome-themed content, now that active development of that game has been halted. There is also non-Steam version of The Fallen Eagle: The Dawn of the Dark Ages available if you need it.
The initially release focuses on the Kingdom of Rohan, and their struggle against Saruman and bandits. You can play as King Théoden himself, Saruman the White, or Wulfgar Brynjarsson of Dunland. This latter choice is actually from the popular RTS game The Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle-Earth, which we are big fans of. The team plan to expand to the rest of Middle-Earth as and when they can.
Of course, the first thing one should do when modding CK3 is just completely overhaul the game entirely and set it in a completely different period and setting. The Bronze Age: Maryannu is based on the Bronze Age mod from CK2, has already been ported to the new game in all its glory, featuring a new custom map that features the Eastern Mediterranean in great detail.
The mod requires CK2 3.3.3. If you have newer version, that's probably the issue. You can downgrade the game to older patch if you go into properties of the game on Steam and change the version in Beta tab.
